Game idea

  • The Yada Bible Game is a game played in a group under the guidance of a adult.
  • The game is designed to be interactive, meaning there’s a lot of discussion during game play.
  • Additionally, children get to use their own problem-solving skills collectively in the group.
  • The game is structured so that the teacher can choose which topics they want to explore further into with their group by using guiding questions.
  • The game progresses according to a fictional story, where some events are directly based on Biblical texts. These parts based on the Bible are marked with a distinct color, and a Bible reference is provided to indicate the specific passage being referred to.

Game duration

The game takes approximately three 45-minute lessons. The story has clearly marked the recommended closing points of the lesson. The duration of the game may vary depending on the number of students and the duration of the discussions. You can pause the game at any time and continue later from the same point.

During each of the three lessons, there is at least one functional task and several tasks that require reflection.

Pausing and resuming the game

During the game, you can see the logo of the Yada Bible game in the lower right corner. Press the logo to find the number of the game section. Take the number if you stop the game and want to continue the game later from the same point.

You can continue the game by entering the number on the front page of the game in the space reserved for it.

Background of the game

The game was designed and made as a seminar work of the Suomen Teologinen opisto in 2023. The game is designed as teaching material for elementary school religious education, but it also contains tasks that cross subject boundaries.

You can read more detailed information in Finnish about the benefits of the game in educational use and the underlying principles in the report of the seminar work. The report describes e.g. aspects related to project planning and the utilization of the game, as well as how the planning has taken into account Finland’s national legislation on religious education in basic education.

Using the game in different subjects of the school

In addition to tasks related to Christian religious education, the game also contains tasks from other subjects. In addition to these, you can use the events of game situations in connection with other subjects, e.g. in painting to paint the scenery seen in the game or the events of the game.
